Project #1
School Fees / Shoes / Chappals for 48 Children & Health Food & Drinks and Fruits for 25 Old Aged Women of Udhavum Ullangal Home @ Maraimalai Nagar Near Chennai
For May 2010 month’s event, we visited Udhavum Ullangal Illam (Old Age & Children’s Home) situated near Maraimalai Nagar on 30th May 2010. At present, this organization takes care of nearly 75 inmates (Old Aged – 25, Orphan Children – 48). This home provides free food, shelter, medical care and other basic needs of life to the inmates besides providing school education to the inmates of the home. Children of this Home are studying in the nearby schools. This home provides peaceful and harmonious life to the helpless aged citizens. We provided School Fees, Shoes, Chappals for 48 Children and Health Food & Drinks and Fruits for 25 Old Aged Women. We also provided Special Lunch, Ice Creams, Sweets, Savories, Biscuits, and Chocolates for all the inmates of the home. We conducted various games like Drawing Competition, Balloon Bursting Competition and Talent Show for Children and Ball Pass Game for Elders. We have also provided educational aid for this home last year in the month of May 2009..

Food Expenses for Poor Physically Challenged Working Women of Thiyagam Women’s Trust, Madurai
Thiyagam Women Trust is providing free accommodation to Physically Challenged Working Women, who hail from poor background in rural areas around Madurai. They had been collecting Rs.400/- towards providing food for the physically challenged women who are working in the Thiyagam Tailoring Unit and Thiyagam Computer Centre. In October 2009, they planned not to collect money from the physically challenged working women & women under training, for providing food. They needed some helping hand to take care of the food provided to these women. So, from November 2009 onwards we were taking care of the Food Expenses for the 10 poor Physically Challenged Working Women for a period of Six months (November 2009 – April 2010). Now, we have revived the project and are planning to extended our support for another Six Months (May 2010 – October 2010) for Rs. 5,250/- per month.

Partial Educational Aid for a Semi-Orphan Poor Girl – Logeshwari D.
We came to know about a girl Logeshwari D who needed help for pursuing her education. She scored 403 out of 500 in the SSLC Examination (80.6%). She is one of the inmates of the Government Home for Girls, Purasawakkam, where she studied in the residential school inside the home premises itself. She hails from a Village near Cuddalore District. Her father is no more and her mother is the sole bread-winner in her family. Her younger brother is doing his 7th Standard. Now, she is going to study from her native home (Cuddalore). She got admission in a school for Plus One (11th Standard) Science Group. Total Fees is Rs. 7,000/-. She is falling short by Rs. 3,500/- and she needs our help for the same. We have provided the Partial School Fees of Rs. 3,500/-.

Unpaid Rent for two months provided for a Poor/Orphan Children/Old Aged/Mentally Retarded/ Handicapped Home (May & June 2010)
We already know this home (“Perumal – Subbaiah Memorial Orphan, Children, Old Aged and Handicapped Home – Karunai Illam”, with 20 inmates) and have already provided a month’s provision in May 2009 & July 2009 to this home and also paid rent of this home during September 2009 – April 2010. They are struggling to pay their rent. So, we have provided last month and this month rent for this home. (May & June 2010).

Educational Aid for a Sri Lankan Refugee Camp Student
Last year, we had provided the 2nd Semester College Fees of Rs. 16,000/- for a Poor Sri Lankan Refugee Camp Girl named Saimanila K. She was referred by our partner organization “India Sudar Educational and Charitable Trust” (www.indiasudar.org), Chennai and verified by Mr. Udhaya Kumar (From India Sudar). Now, she is going to join her 3rd Semester of B.Sc., (Information Technology) in N.M.S.S. Vellaichamy Nadar College, Nagamalai, Madurai. Her father is not living with them and her mother is working as Daily Wage Laborer and is taking care of the whole family. They are living in the Sri Lankan Refugee Camp @ Sivakasi. Her elder sister (Gokila) is working in Office at Indira Gandhi International Academy School (which is providing Free School Education for the Sri Lankan Refugees), Bangalore. Her three younger sisters are living in the Sri Lankan Refugee Camp and studying in the nearby Government Schools. Saimanila’s 3rd Semester College Fees is Rs. 16,000/-, and she needed our help for the same. We haveprovided the 3rd Semester College Fees of Rs. 16,000/-.

Provision for a Poor / Orphan / Semi-Orphan Children’s Home @ Nemilichery, Chennai
Gandhiji Rehabilitation Centre, Nemilichery, Chennai takes care of 25 inmates; almost all of them being poor / orphan / semi-orphan. This home provides free food, shelter, education, medical care and other basic needs of life to all the inmates of the home. Vanarasan, who is the son of the organization’s founder, is taking care of the students. They are struggling for their day-to-day basic needs. As per their request we provided provisions worth Rs. 2,500/-.

Food Expenses for Poor Visually Challenged Students of Government Hostel for Boys @ Kodambakkam, Chennai.
Government Hostel for Visually Challenged & Normal Students @ Kodambakkam, Chennai accommodates the needy Visually Challenged and Normal Students hailing from Poor rural families who come to Chennai for their further studies. This home provides free food, shelter and other basic needs for nearly 40 Visually Challenged Students and more than 60 Normal Students. These students are studying in various government and private colleges in and around Chennai in various disciplines such as English, History, Tamil, etc. Currently, there are 15 Visually Challenged students residing at the hostel. This hostel was closed few weeks back for the summer holidays, but some of our Visually Challenged students needed to stay on for taking up their B. Ed., and other examinations. Although, the hostel is as such open, the mess could not be kept functioning. A few regular readers at the hostel have been extremely supportive and have been sponsoring the Dinner requirement. But now, the students seem to have no where else to turn for help and have come to us for help. Mr. Narayana of Vaishnavi Caterers has gracefully agreed to deliver Dinner to the hostel on 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st May, 2010 for a small amount of Rs. 300/- per day (Rs. 300 * 4 Days = Rs. 1,200/-). He himself has sponsored Dinner for these Visually Challenged students on 3 days last week.

We came to know about a girl, Vinodhini G, who needed help for pursuing her education. She scored 449 out of 500 in the SSLC Examination (89.8%). She is one of the inmates of the Government Home for Girls, Purasawakkam, where she studied in the residential school inside the home premises itself. She is living in Chemmancheri near Shozhinganallur. Her father is no more and her mother and sisters are working and take care of the family. Now, she is going to study from a Government Hostel @ Egmore. She got admission in a school for Plus One (11th Standard). Total Fees is Rs. 6,500/-. She is falling short by Rs. 3,500/- and she needs our help for the same. We have provided the Partial School Fees of Rs. 3,500/-.

We appreciate your valuable Suggestions/Comments about the event to plan and improve our future events. The excess amount of Rs. 33225.35 would be utilized for June 2010 month’s event.
